Encouraging results for Fiore
Dean Fiore capped off a solid weekend with 20th place in today’s second V8 Supercar race at Barbagallo Raceway.
Fiore and the Triple F Racing crew enjoyed an encouraging – though sometimes challenging – weekend at their home circuit. Having recorded his best ever qualifying position on Saturday morning, Fiore went on to nab another top 20 finish in today’s 24th race of the season – a good effort in the ultra-competitive class.
And it could have been better. Fiore ran as high as third while utilising the softer ‘sprint’ tyre available to teams over the course of a race weekend, but his car didn’t adapt when Fiore switched back to the ‘control’ tyre, making for a hard finish to the 200 kilometre epic.
“The car just wasn’t great once we were off the option tyre,” Fiore said.
“That’s a shame, but the thing is, this whole rookie season is a learning curve for me. And when you have a tough race like I had today, you learn even more. So I’m not disappointed, I’m actually very encouraged. Sure it would have been nice to be a bit deeper inside the top 20, but our relative pace has been good.”
Fiore will now finish his maiden season in V8 Supercars at the Sydney 500 in a fortnight.
Todd Fiore had a brilliant weekend, taking out the WA Dash for Cash Formula Ford 1600 race, the richest single event for open-wheelers in Australia. Fiore needed to finish inside the top seven in today’s final race, and grabbed second, securing $10,000 in prize money.
“It’s the perfect end to the perfect season” said Todd, who won this year’s WA Formula Ford title, a feat achieved twice by older brother Dean (2002 and 2003).
“The first two race wins were so important. It meant I could work out what I needed to do this afternoon in the final, and be sensible about it. I couldn’t be happier with how it all went.”
Paul Fiore had a weekend he would rather forget. Engine troubles in the saloon car in race 2 put him out of contention for the rest of the weekend. While in the mini, he unfortunately got tangled in a collision in the second restart of what seemed to be more like a demolition derby than a mini challenge race.
