Todd's Townsville Debut
13 July 2010
Todd Fiore had his
second taste of V8 Supercar racing this past weekend at the Townsville circuit, with some extremely promising results. Having never raced on the Townsville track before, and still coming to terms with racing a V8 Supercar, Todd spent the two forty minute practice sessions adjusting to the car and the track. Todd was scraping half a second off his lap times in each session he competed in throughout the weekend.
From qualifying 18th on Saturday, Todd managed to get inside the top 10 in Race 1 before a last corner altercation caused a puncture, which resulted in finishing a lap down in 18th position.
Race 2 saw the youngest of the Fiore brother's get a great start from 18th position and was up into the top 10 by then end of the first lap. Todd was tussling in battles with other driver's throughout the race before being turned around at turn 3, which resulted in a 12th position finish.
Todd had another good start off the line in Race 3 from 13th position (combined points from the first two races determines grid positions for the last race), but just didn't have the race pace to be able to stick with the main battle pack. However, he still managed to cross the line in 16th position, resulting in finishing 13th overall for the weekend.
"I learnt a lot and gained a lot of experience over the weekend, and had a ball out there. I finished all 3 races which was my main aim going into the event. It was a really great weekend, and the atmosphere at the track was amazing as the locals really get behind it," Todd commented.
The next round of the Fujitsu Series is at Mount Panorama as a support category to the Bathurst 1000 on October 7-10.
