V8 Supercar Championship
V8 Supercars AustraliaThe continued growth of V8 Supercars within Australia and internationally continues to defy current trends as one of the great business success stories on and off the track. Supporters and commercial partners continue to join the Series in record numbers.
It is Australia’s premier motor sport category which is managed wholly by V8 Supercars Australia, the governing body responsible for the marketing, promotion and staging of the 16-race Championship in every Australian State, the Northern Territory, New Zealand and the Middle East.
The Championship Series is Australia’s third most viewed sport behind cricket and AFL and includes three of the country’s largest single sporting events each year. 2009 saw signature events added at the sporting hungry North Queensland City of Townsville and Sydney’s Homebush Precinct which attracted an astonishing 184,856 race fans over the weekend.
Internationally the sport is in demand around the world with several countries wanting to stage a V8 Supercars event; such is the power of the brand.
From humble beginnings in 1997 as a two-person team, the category continues to capture the hearts and minds of all Australians, young and old.
Across the board promoters and circuits are meeting the challenge of providing first class venues for media and supporters. Corporate attendance is increasing massively each year.
The Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 is one of Australia’s largest annual sporting events and boasts International exposure on the same scale as the AFL Grand Final and the Melbourne Cup.
In terms of attendance more than 1.5 million people attended V8 Supercar events in Australia, Bahrain and New Zealand in 2008. The Clipsal 500 in Adelaide in March attracted a Championship record 290,000 spectators – more than any Formula One event held at the circuit.
